Camilo Sesto, en un arrebato de inspiración, decide adaptar en los años 70 el musical más moderno y transgresor de la época, Jesucristo Superstar, un éxito internacional que, en plena dictadura, consigue revolucionar el país y hacer historia. Una odisea llena de contratiempos, algunos fortuitos, pero muchos de ellos provocados por la propia coyuntura del momento. Sortear la censura, la mano negra de su representante, las amenazas y sabotajes de los movimientos ultracatólicos dispuestos a todo por impedir su estreno, se irán intercalando con las dificultades inherentes a un montaje de esta envergadura. Pero no estará solo en esta gesta. Contará con otros idealistas que, como él, sintieron el impulso de arriesgar y traer a este país la ópera rock más revolucionaria del momento. Los cuatro mosqueteros de esta odisea se enfrentarán a todo tipo de obstáculos. Buscar un teatro adecuado, sortear la censura, asumir el despliegue técnico que exige la obra, seleccionar al elenco y estrenar el musical mientras Franco agoniza. Además, Camilo debe cumplir sus compromisos con la discográfica que le exige entregar su próximo álbum en las mismas fechas. La serie se adentra en el alma del artista, en explorar qué le llevó a arriesgar su patrimonio y su carrera en un contexto tan complicado y a renunciar a él, en pleno éxito, con un gesto definitivo, afeitarse la barba para un anuncio y donar el importe a un orfanato. Un periplo en el que todos los implicados se dejan demasiado en el camino, pero consiguen estrenar y hacer historia en un país atrasado que despierta a la modernidad.

Camilo Sesto, in a fit of inspiration, decides to adapt the most modern and transgressive musical of the time, Jesus Christ Superstar, an international hit that, in the midst of the dictatorship, manages to revolutionise the country and make history. An odyssey full of setbacks, some of them fortuitous, but many of them caused by the situation at the time. Overcoming censorship, the black hand of his representative, the threats and sabotage of ultra-Catholic movements willing to do anything to prevent its premiere, will be interspersed with the difficulties inherent in a production of this magnitude. But he will not be alone in this feat. He will have other idealists who, like him, felt the impulse to take the risk and bring to this country the most revolutionary rock opera of the moment. The four musketeers of this odyssey will face all kinds of obstacles. Finding a suitable theatre, getting around the censorship, taking on the technical deployment that the work demands, selecting the cast and premiering the musical while Franco is dying. In addition, Camilo must fulfil his commitments to the record company that requires him to deliver his next album on the same dates. The series delves into the artist's soul, exploring what led him to risk his wealth and his career in such a complicated context and to renounce it, in the midst of success, with a definitive gesture, shaving his beard for an advert and donating the money to an orphanage. A journey in which everyone involved leaves too much behind, but they manage to make their debut and make history in a backward country that is waking up to modernity.
